The Solar Stirling engine runs on direct sunlight! Depending upon the sun's incident angle, the engine typically runs at 70 + rpm up. All the moving parts are visible. The engine show the conversion of light into mechanical movement.
The top plate is made from acrylic glass allowing sunlight or the light from a lamp to heat up the black upper side of the displacer piston. Therefore the internal air is heated to allow the engine to work according to the Stirling principle.
If a source of heat is placed under the engine, the rotation will be counter-clockwise. If a cold source is placed underneath the bottom plate, then the rotation will be reversed to the clockwise direction.
The driving energy sources could be a block of ice or boiling water, The only stipulation is that the difference of temperature is great enough to overcome the friction generated by the motion of moving parts. The greater the change of temperature, the more the engine will react to the change in pressure inside the engine.
